Description
This assignment is submitted as part of the SED2601 module: Sociology of Education. It focuses on key sociological concepts such as citizenship, equality, education, and identity, particularly in the context of post-apartheid South Africa. Drawing from Chapters 3 and 4 of the prescribed textbook, Sociology of Education Today edited by Jack Demaine, the questions address historical and contemporary issues in education, including race, class, gender, and culture. It further examines how these factors influence learners’ access to education and how teachers can actively promote social justice through inclusive classroom practices. The responses are designed to reflect a practical understanding of critical theory and citizenship education, encouraging the development of ethical, globally aware, and participatory learners. This work contributes towards a deeper understanding of the role of education in building a democratic and equal society.
