NST2601 Assignment 3 2025
DUE: 31 July 2025
QUESTION 1
1.1 Define the following:
a. Particle
A particle is the smallest unit of matter. According to the Particle Model of Matter, all
substances are made up of extremely small particles that are in constant motion
(NST2601, Study Unit 2). These include atoms and molecules.
📘 (NST2601/1, Study Unit 2)
b. Atomic Model
An atomic model is a scientific representation or theory used to describe the
structure and behaviour of atoms. Over time, these models evolved as new
evidence became available. For example, Dalton’s model viewed the atom as
indivisible, while Thomson’s plum pudding model introduced electrons, and Bohr’s
model placed electrons in energy shells (NST2601, Study Unit 2).
