· Explain women’s movements as social movements that are part of the popular initiatives in
development.

· Outline briefly, the reasons that lead to the emergence of social movements.

· Read Aili Mari Tripp (2019) and highlight the role played by women’s movements in fighting
for women’s land rights in Africa.

· Highlight the role played by women’s movements in protecting the environment in Africa

· Highlight examples of women’s movements across the continent, which tackle important issues
at the grass-roots level fighting for women’s land rights in and protecting the environment in
Africa.

· Then assess the impact of these women’s movement on development in Africa in general
through their fight for women’s land rights and in protecting the environment in Africa
