QUESTION 2 [10 marks] Explain the personal value of children’s literature for young children. QUESTION 3 [10 marks] Selecting children’s books for a Grade R classroom Imagine you are setting up a classroom library for Grade R learners. Select/identify 5 books, each from a different genre of children’s literature (e.g., picture books, folktales, concept books, rhyming books, etc). For each book, provide: 3.1 the title and genre of the book (1 mark each x 5) 3.2 a brief explanation of why this book is appropriate for Grade R learners (1 mark each x 5) QUESTION 4 [10 marks] Using children’s literature to address social challenges 4.1 Choose a children’s story that deals with a common social challenge. Give a brief of what the story is all about (e.g., bullying, diversity, family issues) and describe the challenge presented in the story. (4) 4.2 Explain how you would use this book in the classroom to help children understand and deal with the issue. Provide specific strategies (e.g., guided discussion, activities, etc). (6) QUESTION 5 [10 marks] Design a literacy activity using an alphabet book Using an alphabet book of your choice, design an activity that encourages emergent literacy development in young children. Your response should include: 5.1 the title of the book (2) 5.2 a step-by-step outline of the activity (5) 5.3 An explanation of how the activity promotes literacy skills (3)
