(20) QUESTION 2 [30] This question is based on the case study provided below: Jeremiah, an 82-year-old man, resides in a rented two-bedroom Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) house in Soweto. On June 5, 2023, he went to Maponya Mall to withdraw his old age grant, as was his routine. Unfortunately, someone who offered to help him with the withdrawal robbed him of his grant money. Consequently, Jeremiah was unable to pay his monthly rent and faced eviction. He has two sons and a daughter, whom he hasn’t seen in the last decade, and all his relatives live in KwaZulu Natal Province. With no place to stay, Jeremiah joined a group of homeless individuals living at a dumping site. To cope with the harsh conditions, he resorted to drinking alcohol almost daily. A concerned community member eventually reported his situation to the nearest Department of Social Development office. 2.1 Based on the provided case study, briefly discuss the relevant sections and subsections of the Older Persons Act 13 of 2006 that pertain to his (Jeremiah) situation and recognise him as an older person in need of care and protection.
