DEFINING PLAGIARISM (LEARNING UNIT 6)
Study Unit 6 of the IRM1501 module states that ethics in research involves “a generic
term for various ways of understanding and examining moral life” . The study guide
further explains that before research can be considered “ethical and credible”, it must
meet certain ethical considerations and principles.
In this context, the Oxford English Dictionary defines plagiarism as the “action or
practice of plagiarising; the wrongful appropriations or purloining, and publication as
one’s own, of the ideas, or expression of the ideas … of another”
