Description
POL3701 ASSIGNMENT 1 2026
DUE 23 MARCH 2026
1.1 Analyse the physical and social characteristics of a community that are
relevant when compiling a community profile
A community profile is a planning tool used to give service providers, especially the
police, a clear picture of a community’s needs, concerns, perceptions and available
resources (Study Unit 4). It includes a demographic analysis, crime analysis,
unemployment analysis, and an analysis of the community’s physical and social
characteristics. These characteristics are crucial because they influence community
dynamics and can contribute to crime.
A. Physical characteristics of a community
According to Study Unit 4, information on the physical characteristics of the community
helps to analyse and understand the causes of crime and to design a crime prevention
plan tailored to the physical environment.
