Study Guide, Learning Unit 20), the following five types of engineers could contribute to
safety risk assessments at the Ekapa diamond mine following the mud rush incident:
Mining Engineer: A mining engineer would assess the stability of underground
workings, including the design of support systems to prevent falls of ground and mud
rushes. They would evaluate the integrity of shafts, tunnels, and stopes, and
recommend changes to mining methods to reduce the risk of water or mud ingress
