SECTION A: PHSYCIAL EDUCATION IN THE FOUNDATION PHASE

1.1 As a Grade 1 teacher, you are preparing for an interview with parents. Design your own
background questionnaire based on the content of this Section C: Physical Education. The
questions must be suitable to ask parents in an interview, in order to obtain valuable
background information about their child’s gross motor development and ability during the early
years. For each question give a reason why are you are asking it

Name and explain how five (5) key gross motor concepts, taken from the child’s
background of his/her physical ability, taken from the questionnaire in question 1, can
possibly have an impact on performance in the classroom once the child reaches Grade 1.

Visual tracking is vital for classroom learning. Use a mind map to illustrate and clearly explain
visual tracking, and then describe the key abilities which need to be developed, for a child
within foundation phase to function effectively as a learner.
QUESTION 4
Create two gross motor activities for each of the concepts below, which can be
incorporated into a movement multiple station movement lesson, to improve each of these
aspects. Provide the aim, outcome and a drawing of each gross motor activity.

SECTION B PRACTICAL
This section requires you to design your own activities and making your own movement
equipment your recyclable materials.
Using the format provided in the study guide, Section C: Physical Education for your
lessons.
• These activities require careful planning and should be stations on their own.
• All activities must be your own ideas.
• Not internet images are allowed. You will get zero for the entire assessment is you
use internet images for any movement activity you have to plan or equipment you
have to make.
• Stick figure drawings are required. Make sure the final drawing is in pen else it will
not copy/scan clearly.
2. Design your own Flashcards which display different directions
All must be related to physical education activities (6 x 0,5 = 3)
3. Design you own equipment as indicated in the table below. Provide photo evidence of
each of the equipment you made yourself using recycle material. The power point on
how to make you own equipment is provided online.
4. Plan your own multi-station lesson for each of the grades given below.
Each lesson may only be ONE A4 page. Guidelines are in Section C (12)
