1.1 In your own words, explain what the cause of Neo’s condition might be and what
factors could be contributing to the condition. (4)
Neo’s condition appears to be a result of malnutrition, a state where the body does not
get the necessary nutrients it needs to function properly. Factors contributing to his
malnutrition include poverty and unemployment of his parents, which likely limit the
family’s ability to afford nutritious food. And also, the lack of proper healthcare and
education about nutrition might also be contributing factors.

Proteins-Essential for growth and repair of tissues. Examples include lean meats, eggs,
beans, and legumes.
Carbohydrates-Provide energy for daily activities. Examples include rice, bread, potatoes,
and oats.
Vitamins and M
Minerals- Necessary for various bodily functions. Examples include fruits (oranges,
bananas) for vitamins, and leafy greens (spinach, kale) for minerals.
Fats-Important for brain development and energy. Examples include avocados, nuts,
seeds, and olive oil.
Dairy- Provides calcium for strong bones and teeth. Examples include milk, cheese, and
yogurt.
1.3 Discuss how Neo’s emotions and intellect are likely to have been affected by his
current state. (10)
Neo’s malnutrition can have significant impacts on his emotional and intellectual
development. Emotionally, he may experience feelings of sadness, irritability, and low
self-esteem due to his physical appearance and constant fatigue. Intellectually,
malnutrition can hinder cognitive development, leading to difficulties in concentrating,
learning, and performing academically. Chronic health issues and absenteeism from
school can further exacerbate these problems, creating a cycle of poor academic
performance and emotional distress.
1.4 Obesity in children is becoming a health problem. Discuss three major causes
of obesity in children and suggest ways of dealing with them. (10)
Unhealthy Diets
High consumption of sugary drinks, fast foods, and snacks that are high in fats and
sugars.

families on balanced diets, and regulating food marketing to children.
