QUESTIONS
1. A South African university was facing significant employment relations challenges,
with faculty members from different departments experiencing tension due to conflicting
priorities and communication styles. Administrative staff, for instance, reported low
morale and high turnover, citing poor communication and lack of professional
development opportunities. As an industrial- organisational (I/O) psychologist, you were
consulted to address these issues.
Critically discuss how you could contribute to the employment relations at this
institution. First explain the main employment relations issues facing this
university and then discuss your potential contributions.
According to Ferreira (2005), South Africa’s comprehensive legal framework, shaped by
its historical context, emphasizes redress, equity, and structured labour relations. This
