ASSIGNMENT 02
DUE DATE: JUNE 2025
QUESTION 1 (20 marks)
1.1 How does the principle of inclusive education fundamentally challenge the
assumptions underlying traditional ‘one-size-fits-all’ approaches to teaching?
Inclusive education challenges the traditional ‘one-size-fits-all’ model by acknowledging
that all learners are different in terms of ability, background, and needs (DoE, 2001, p.
7). The conventional model assumes uniformity that all learners can learn in the same
way, at the same pace, using the same materials. However, inclusive education, as
outlined in
Education White Paper 6, recognises that
All children can learn, but they require different kinds of support;
Learning needs are part of the natural diversity of human experience
The education system, curriculum, teaching methods and environments must be
adapted to accommodate these differences.
It’s focusing on equity, participation, and access, inclusive education promotes
curriculum differentiation and adaptation, where the learning process is adjusted to fit
