Darwin, the owner of an upmarket boutique hotel in Cape Town, is facing a challenging situation due to
the rapid expansion and overwhelming success of his hotel. The establishment has become immensely
popular among business executives and tourists, resulting in high customer demand. Currently
employing 100 employees ranging from cleaners to hotel managers and executives, the hotel needs to
hire at least 50 more employees to meet the growing demand and support its expansion. However,
Darwin is concerned about the shortage of qualified candidates, as the International Hotel and Tourism
School is not supplying enough graduates to fulfil his workforce needs. As a human resource consultant
from a large talent management firm in Johannesburg, you are approached by Darwin to assist him with
his
staffing
problem.
1.1 Identify the key challenges the hotel may face due to its current staffing situation.
