Portfolio Structure and Content
Your portfolio should include the following components:
1.
Introduction (250 words)
o
Briefly introduce your background, professional aspirations, and the context in which you teach (or plan to teach).
o
Explain why you believe a personal teaching and learning philosophy is important in your development as an educator.
2.
Teaching and Learning Philosophy Statement (1,000 words)
o
Aims of Education: Explain your beliefs about the primary goals of education and how you envision contributing to these aims as an educator.
o
Pedagogy and Learning: Discuss your teaching methods, the role of the educator and the student in the learning process, and how you create a conducive learning environment.
o
Educational Knowledge and Curriculum: Describe how you approach curriculum design, the knowledge and skills you prioritize, and how you ensure relevance and inclusivity in content.
o
Ethics and Social Justice: Reflect on the ethical principles guiding your practice and your commitment to fostering equity and inclusion.
o
Education and Society: Address your views on the role of education in promoting democratic values, social cohesion, and societal change.
3.
Supporting Artifacts (Appendices)
o
Include a minimum of three artifacts that demonstrate your teaching philosophy in action. Examples may include lesson plans, assessment tools, reflections from teaching practice, or student feedback.
o
Each artifact should be accompanied by a brief explanation (200-300 words) of how it reflects your teaching philosophy.
4.
Reflective Summary (450 words)
o
Summarize how this portfolio process has impacted your understanding of yourself as an educator.
o
Highlight any changes in perspective and discuss goals for continued growth and development.
