Description

GGH2606 Assignment 1 Semester 1 | Due 31 March 2025. All questions answered. Part 1: Introduction of your chosen area In the first component of this assignment, you will introduce the area you are choosing to use for your GGH2606 activities to the lecturer. The chosen area must be either a city, town, region or district with a variety of both man-made and natural resources for tourism. You cannot work with just one attraction such as a national park, monument, museum or zoo. The introduction of the area needs to be made according to the following five themes: 1. The location of the area (both absolute and relative location) 2. The environment of the area (natural and/or human-made/altered) 3. Tourist attractions found here and/or potential attractions 4. What type of tourists would be interested in this area (according to the UNWTO main purpose of tourism trips classification – Spotlight 1.1)? 5. The possible impacts of tourism in the area This must be done by writing a short report focusing on each of the themes individually. You may use graphical aids to strengthen your discussion of the chosen area, but it is not compulsory. The entire introduction of the chosen area should not exceed 1000 words. This part of Assignment 01 counts 40 marks (8 marks per theme discussed). Part 2: Forces in the macro environment affecting the tourism potential of your chosen area For the second part of the report, you need to consult Learning unit 2. Complete the second part of your report by applying and critically discussing how the following forces in the macro environment influence the tourism potential of your chosen area: 1) Geographical forces 2) Climatic forces 3) Socio-cultural forces 4) Demographic forces 5) Economic forces 6) Political forces Part two of the assignment needs to be presented in short report format as well. The entire assignment must not exceed 3000 words. Parts 1 and 2 need to be submitted as one document containing a report with two parts. The application and discussion of each of the forces in the macro environment within the context of your chosen area counts 10 marks individually and the total marks for Part 2 is 60 marks.
