An Informational and Analytical Report on the Factors Contributing to Increased
House Robberies in the Pretoria Central Policing Precinct: A Case Study

INTRODUCTION

This report provides an informational and analytical overview of the reported increase in
house robberies within the Pretoria Central policing precinct during the third quarter of
the 2025/2026 financial year (July – September 2025). The purpose of this report is
twofold. Firstly, it aims to inform the station management of the Community Service
Centre (CSC) and the Station Commander about the statistical trends, nature, and
common modus operandi associated with these crimes. This informational aspect will
present the factual data as recorded in the official Occurrence Books (OB) and the
South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Administration System (CAS). Next, the
report will analyse this data to identify potential contributing factors, such as
environmental vulnerabilities, socio-economic dynamics, and possible gaps in current
crime prevention strategies. And providing both information and analysis, this report
seeks to offer a clear and comprehensive understanding of the problem at hand (Bovee
