Turkish Power has been selected as a preferred bidder to provide electricity to ESKOM from their gas-to-power ships for the next 20•years. This 20-year contract is worth more than R200- billion but will make electricity more expensive for South Africans. On Wednesday 30 November 2022, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) will brief Parliaments Portfolio Committee for Minerals and Energy to evaluate its proposed bids on the Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producers (RMIPPP), specifically the choice of Turkish Power.
