You are expected to evaluate, critically analyse and apply the information in your study
material. You therefore need to deliver well-structured and well-presented arguments and
solutions. Be wary of making statements without substantiating and motivating them. It is
essential to provide practical examples of the application of theory in the public sector. Please
note that you are not allowed to copy content from sources verbatim as this would constitute
plagiarism, which is a disciplinary offense. You therefore must re-write the content in your own
words. You may use extra information sources. Note that Wikipedia, Facebook and YouTube
are not academic sources but may provide valuable additional information about the real-live
context of public administration.
NOTE: At least 30% of the marks are allocated to the application of the theory.
The length of you answer is restricted to a maximum of Seven (7) pages, excluding the title
page, table of contents and list of sources.
The assessment answer must be written in the form of an essay and must include the
following:

You have to:

QUESTION
South Africa continues to encounter significant macroeconomic challenges, including slow
economic growth, high unemployment, rising public debt, inflationary pressures and persistent
structural constraints such as electricity shortages and inequality. In response, the South
African government and the South African Reserve Bank implement various macroeconomic
policy interventions to stabilise the economy, promote sustainable growth and improve the
living standards of citizens.
Critically discuss the macroeconomic policy interventions implemented in South Africa to
address these challenges. In your discussion:
• Explain the concept of macroeconomic policy interventions.
• Discuss the major macroeconomic challenges facing South Africa.
• Analyse the fiscal and monetary policy interventions implemented by the government
and the South African Reserve Bank.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of these interventions in promoting economic growth,
employment, price stability and sustainable development.
• Illustrate your discussion with relevant South African examples.
