LCP4807 Assignment 2 Semester 1 Memo | Due 21 April 2026. TWO ANSWERS PROVIDED. The Republic of Sofala is a small country located in Southeastern Africa, with a population
of just over 6 million people. It is one of the poorest countries in the world, with 90% of the
residents living on less than $1 per day. Sofala is a culturally rich country with a patriarchal
society where gender norms are set with an understanding of the sociocultural
expectations of both women and men. Sofala has a constitution that includes a Bill of Rights,
which is a supreme law of the country. It has ratified the following major United Nations
(UN) human rights instruments: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the
International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) (and its Protocol).
Sofala has also ratified the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights; the Protocol to
the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa, and
the Protocol to the African Charter on the Establishment of an African Court on Human and
Peoples’ Rights but has not made a special declaration in terms of article 34(6).
